John Ascuaga’s Nugget Casino Resort to Participate in Earth Hour 2009 on March 28

Sparks/Reno, Nev. – John Ascuaga’s Nugget Casino Resort will participate in Earth Hour 2009 by switching off the exterior lights that illuminate the property’s twin hotel towers from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 28.

Earth Hour began in Sydney, Australia in 2007, when 2.2 million homes and businesses switched off their lights for one hour. In 2008, the message had grown into a global sustainability movement, with 50 million people switching off their lights. Global landmarks such as the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, Rome’s Colosseum, the Sydney Opera House and the Coca-Cola billboard in Times Square all stood in darkness.

So far, more than 2,700 cities, towns and municipalities in 84 countries have committed to turn off the lights during Earth Hour 2009. Other international locations that plan to participate include the Las Vegas Strip, The Pyramids in Egypt, the Acropolis in Athens, the Broadway Theater District, the Space Needle in Seattle, the Chrysler Building in New York, plus downtown Reno locations such as Eldorado Casino and Silver Legacy Resort Casino.

John Ascuaga’s Nugget is a premier casino resort owned and operated by the Ascuaga family in Sparks, Nevada. For more information, call (800) 648-1177 or (775) 356-3300, or visit janugget.com.
